51% of TVET graduates working as highly skilled technical workers

KUALA LUMPUR: A total of 69,475 or 51% of the 136,062 Technical Education and Vocational Training (TVET) graduates in Malaysia are working as professionals and skilled workers until 2017.
Deputy Education Minister Datuk P. Kamalanathan said the National Youth Skills Institute has also trained 29,423 youths in various skills.
"The Education ministry along with other ministries will boost TVET through the NBOS (National Blue Ocean Strategy). Among the measures taken is to include the psychometric tests into the Form 3 assessment (PT3) examination to identify the interests of the students at an early stage.
"If they are not academically inclined, they can venture into skills," he told the Dewan Rakyat today when replying to Nurul Izzah Anwar (PKR-Lembah Pantai) who wanted to know the number of highly skilled technical workers among the Malaysian youths from 2013 to 2017.
In the meantime, Kamalanathan said the government had allocated RM32.6 million for infrastructure, equipment and security at all 245 daily schools conducting the Malaysian Skills Certificate. — Bernama
