DBKL: Report construction sites operating after 10pm

KUALA LUMPUR: Members of the public are advised to report to the Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL) if work at construction sites located near residential areas in the city continues after 10pm.
DBKL senior deputy director of enforcement, Osman Ismail said the department would not compromise with any developers who caused inconvenience to the public simply because they wanted their projects to be completed early.
"Developers want to achieve targets, the earlier the better, because they will be penalised if they are late (in their work progress), so they press the workers to work over time.
"The noise from the construction work will indeed disturb the public, especially in the housing area and thus disrupt the quiet and peaceful living ," he told Bernama after launching an Integrated Operation on a construction site in Jalan Kuchai Lama, here today.
He said developers would be warned only once for committing the offence and a compound of RM50,000 would be imposed if if they ignored the warning.
Osman said last year DBKL issued more than 80 compound notices with a total fine of more than RM4 million against developers for continuing their construction work after 10 pm.
However, as of March 20 this year, only 16 compounds had been issued, he added.
"We have our officers conducting checks at construction sites, including the mega projects, in Kuala Lumpur," he said.
Members of the public could contact the DBKL enforcement radio room at 03-40244424 which operates round the clock to lodge complaints. — Bernama
