PETALING JAYA: The Alor Star City Council (MBAS) has today advised a rescuer of strays to submit an appeal letter in order to put the eviction notice issued to her on hold.
MBAS Health and Environment director Abd Halim Md. Akhir was responding to Halijah Idris' appeal for time to move the animals under care from the current premises in Alor Star.
Halijah Idris, also known as Mak Intan, received a letter on Sunday to have the strays be moved to a more suitable location within three months.
The strays were classified to be "wild dogs" and were loud, the letter stated.
The letter, which is available on Pak Mie's Shelter Facebook, has been shared 298 times.
Mak Intan said she would need at least a year to move some 500 dogs to a new location.
"I appeal to the state government and MBAS to find a land about one acre to accommodate the dogs in my care. Time is also needed to ensure a smooth transition," she said today.
The sanctuary, which is being operated by the 71-year-old widower of Muhammad Azmi Ismail, who is widely known as Pak Mie, continues until now due to Mak Intan's efforts.
She was named as one of the recipients of the "Dignifying A Profession Award" by the Rotary Club of Petaling Jaya.
There were suggestions in her Facebook account that someone start a crowd-sourcing fund for Mak Intan to secure a new place for her dogs.
