Traffic policeman pleads not guilty to corruption

KUALA LUMPUR: A traffic policeman pleaded not guilty in the sessions court here today to two counts of corruption for allegedly soliciting and obtaining bribe as an inducement for him to release a man who was allegedly in possession of a fake identity card.
Lance Corporal Lady Johari Idris, 55, was charged with soliciting RM3,000 from one Chong Kun Choi, 57, as an inducement for him to release his (Chong) worker, Anhar Mansor, who was alleged to be in possession of a fake identity card.
The charge, under Section 16(a)(B) of the Anti-Corruption Commission Act6 2009, provides an imprisonment for up to 20 years and fine of not less than five times the amount of the bribe involved, or RM10,000, whichever is higher, if found guilty.
He was also charged with obtaining for himself RM2,000 from Chong, through Anhar, for the same purpose.
Both the offences were allegedly committed at the committed at the Tun Hs Lee traffic police station, Jalan Bandar here at 10.40 am on Nov 13, 2012.
Judge Azura Alwi allowed the traffic policeman bail of RM10,000 in one surety for both charges and fixed April 12 for mention.
Lady Johari, who was unrepresented, was also ordered to surrender his passport to the court and report himself at the MACC office every month.
