Lorry driver who stabs wife is charged in court

KLANG: A lorry driver who allegedly stabbed his wife in a video which went viral on March 8, pleaded not guilty in the sessions court here today to a charge of attempted murder.
N. Somoo, 38, and a friend, V. Chandramogan, 42, who is jointly charged with Somoo, made the not guilty plea before Judge Darmafikri Abu Adam.
The two men were charged with attempting to murder R. Komathi, 43, by slashing and stabbing her with a machete in front of Kilang Flexi Components (KL) Sdn Bhd at Taman Perindustrian Klang Jaya here at about 8am on March 8.
The charge, under Section 307 of the Penal Code and read together with Section 34 of the same law, provides for an imprisonment for up to 20 years, if found guilty.
Lawyer K. Nathiya, representing both the accused, requested for a reasonable bail as both her clients were the sole breadwinners of their respective families.
The prosecution, conducted by deputy public prosecutor Tan Chiew King, did not offer offer bail as Komathi was still hospitalised and the case had gone viral on social media.
Following which the court did not grant bail for both the accused and set April 23 for mention.
The video clip showed both men stabbing and slashing Komathi several times while dragging her to a car. — Bernama
