IPOH: Perak DAP chairman Nga Kor Ming said he is a Perakian first, in response to speculation that he would contest in Teluk Intan for the 14th General Election (GE14).
"I am a Perakian ... Perak is my home state ... I will not go out of the state," he told reporters here today, in response to recent news reports that he would take on Gerakan president Datuk Seri Mah Siew Keong in Teluk Intan.
Nga, who is the Taiping MP and Kepayang state assemblyman, declined to comment further on the matter.
On reports that Gerakan in Taiping are happy that he will not defend the seat, Nga warned them to not be too ambitious.
He said 99% of the candidates who would contest in the state have been confirmed.
Nga said there would be both new and old faces in the line-up and the party would contest 18 state seats and seven parliamentary seats.
He also noted that Keranji and Jelapang state assemblymen Chen Fook Chye and Teh Hock Ke would not be contesting in GE14.
Chen was first elected in 2004 and was appointed as a state executive councillor after the 2008 polls when Pakatan Rakyat took over the administration of the Perak state government.
He successfully defended the seat in the next election.
Teh who is the state DAP treasurer won the Jelapang seat in 2013. He was picked to contest after former DAP assemblyman Datuk Hee Yit Foong, who turned BN friendly, led to the collapse of the 11-month Pakatan Rakyat administration in 2009.
"They have decided to give way to others voluntarily.
"We respect their decision and thank them for their services to the voters and the party.
"They are veterans with each of them serving as members for 30 years and the party appreciates their contribution.
"I am confident they will continue to serve although they declined to contest," he added at the press conference.
