IPOH: Police swooped in to arrest three suspects including a babysitter after a six-month-old baby girl, who was believed to have been abused, had died at the Manjung district hospital on Saturday.
Perak CID chief SAC Yahya Abd Rahman said that all the suspects have a close relationship with the child.
They have been remanded for a week to facilitate investigation.
"Initial investigation revealed the abuse had been going on for some time based on the injuries and became serious recently. The family members were alerted ... subsequently, we picked up the three people," he told reporters after attending the state level Police Day celebrations here today.
According to him, the child was in a coma and weak but succumbed to her injuries four hours after treatment at the hospital.

The case has been reclassified from child abuse to murder under Section 302.
On Saturday, the baby was taken to the hospital by the guardian at 2am but later died at 6.45am.

Doctors confirmed the death was due to infection, blood clot and head injuries.
The infant's left ribs were also broken.
