KOTA KINABALU: About 300 villagers, members of the People's Volunteer Corps (Rela) and volunteers from Universiti Teknologi Mara (UTM) joined a 'gotong-royong' (self-help) programme to repair a multi-purpose hall in Kampung Tatahan, Inanam near here today.
Kota Kinabalu Rela officer Mohd Bakry Md Baily said the gotong-royong was held under the 'Maju Bersama Negaraku' programme.
"The multi-purpose hall is getting a bit dilapidated. So, that's why the villagers and Rela members are working together to repair the hall so that the villagers could continue to organise various events here," he told Bernama.
He said the hall was not only used for parties but also as a venue for various courses for community development and meetings.
The gotong-royong, which began at 7am, involved among others repairing electrical wiring, cleaning and painting the walls. — Bernama
