KUALA LUMPUR: The Dewan Rakyat has suspended three DAP lawmakers following their remarks against speaker Tan Sri Pandikar Amin Mulia for not allowing an emergency motion on the seizure of a luxury yacht linked to businessman Low Taek Jho and questions related to 1Malaysia Development Bhd (1MDB).
V. Sivakumar (Batu Gajah), Ngeh Khoo Ham (Beruas) and Nga Kor Ming (Taiping) were suspended for ten days beginning today.
The decision was announced by Deputy Dewan Rakyat Speaker Datuk Seri Ronald Kiandee.
"It is very inappropriate for the trio to go to the media and make this statement, and their refusal to apologise (to the Speaker) is an insult to the proceeding, and ignoring the Speaker's request is an offense of the standing order which every lawmaker should follow.
"The action of all three lawmakers is an insult to the Dewan Rakyat and I order that Beruas, Batu Gajah and Taiping exit the Dewan Rakyat for ten days, starting today," Ronald said in the Dewan Rakyat today.
The three MPs had issued a joint statement earlier this month, that stated that the speaker should not be an "accomplice to cover up corruption scandals."
The statement also claimed that if "Pandikar had failed to uphold the truth, then the most honourable thing for him to do is to resign."
In response, Pandikar, sent a letter to the them that urged them to apologise as their remarks were an insult to the speaker and the House.
Pandikar added that stern action would be taken against them if they failed to comply.
