Tension runs high at Dewan Rakyat sitting

KUALA LUMPUR: Tension ran high at the Dewan Rakyat sitting as MPs from both sides of the divide traded barbs over the suspension of Lim Kit Siang (DAP - Gelang Patah) yesterday.
The verbal confrontation, which lasted for almost 20 minutes, saw lawmakers shouting at each other with words such as "kurang ajar" (insolent) and "bodoh" (stupid) being uttered.
The shouting started when Datuk Che Mohamad Zulkifly Jusoh (BN-Setiu) raised a point of order questioning Lim's presence in the House despite the suspension.
"This is inappropriate behaviour which is a disgrace to the august House. This is against the Standing Order," Zulkifly said.

"But Gelang Patah is still here. He is a senior (parliamentarian). He should set an example. I call for action to be taken against him," he added.
At this point, several opposition lawmakers, including G. Manivanan (PKR-Kapar) and Hanipa Maidin (Amanah-Sepang), stood up in Lim's defence.
Manivanan asked Zulkifly to sit down instead of wasting the time of other parliamentarians.
"What is this? Gelang Patah. Don't be kurang ajar in the House," Zulkifly said, which led to calls from the opposition for him to retract his statement.
"You are stupid... go back to kindergarten and learn," Manivanan told Zulkifly.
