GEORGE TOWN: A video of two teenagers involved in a street fight, who are believed to be from a secondary school near here, has gone viral on social media.
The less than two-minutes-long video was posted on the Penang Kini Facebook page yesterday.
The clip shows both boys hitting and bashing each other in the alley near their school. It also showed other students watching the fight, but none of them tried to intervene.
The quiet alley is used as a shortcut by pedestrians and motorcyclists from Lorong Argus to Jalan Masjid Keling.
In the clip, the students can be heard shouting in Tamil and encouraging the boy who started the fight to keep attacking the boy who was defending himself.
Both the boys kept fighting until a student in a St John's t-shirt came forward to stop the fight.
It has been learnt that the fight took place right after school on Thursday as the boys were going to their co-curriculum activities.
As of today, the video has been shared over 1,000 times with 93,000 views.
When contacted, Northeast District police chief ACP Anuar Omar said that police had not yet received any reports relating to the incident.
However, he noted that police had visited the school and had met with the principle to inquire about the event.
"We have been told by the school principle that students involved in the fight are currently being identified," he said in a statement to the media.
Anuar added that the principle had promised him that the school would bring forward the students involved in the fight, once they are caught and identified.
