KUALA LUMPUR: The Enforcement Agency Integrity Commission (EAIC) is investigating the death of a detainee found hanged at the Selama police station lock-up in Perak on March 17.
Its chairman, Datuk A Aziz A. Rahim said the commission had opened an investigation paper and taken statements.
He also said the EAIC was now in the midst of completing the investigation and that the findings would be announced once the probe was completed.
"If there are relevant recommendations, it will be extended to the disciplinary committee or the Royal Malaysia Police's Integrity and Standards Compliance Department (JIPS) for further improvement," he said in a statement here today.
A Aziz stressed that every investigation by the EAIC was carried out in an independent, transparent and professional manner as provided in the Enforcement Agency Integrity Commission Act 2009 (Act 700).
In the 9.30 am incident, two policemen found the 39-year-old detainee dead.
The man had been detained under Section 15(1) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952 and Section 3(1) of the Dangerous Drugs (Special Preventive Measures) Act 1985. — Bernama
