KUALA LUMPUR: A total of 123 out of 334 children with autism who have undergone intervention programmes at the Permata Kurnia Centre have successfully entered mainstream schools and pre-schools since 2017, according to Permata Negara patron Datin Seri Rosmah Mansor.
She expressed hope for more children from the centre to be absorbed into mainstream schools so that they can receive a complete education.
"I also hope that people out there can have a better understanding about children with autism, and accept them like any other child," she said.
She was speaking to reporters today after spending time with four autistic children who had been through the programme at the Permata Kurnia centre and are now at SK Taman Koperasi Polis, here today.
Rosmah spent about half an hour with the children in conjunction with World Autism Awareness Day, before holding an hour-long dialogue session with their parents.
She said during the session, there were suggestions from parents for children from the Permata Kurnia centre to be given an opportunity to undergo the UKM1, UKM2 and UKM3 tests.
"If these children pass the test and their IQ is high, they will be allowed to enter the Permata Pintar Negara centre at Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia, God willing," she added. — Bernama
