PETALING JAYA: The Tunku Mahkota of Johor (TMJ), Tunku Ismail Sultan Ibrahim is no longer the president of the Football Association of Malaysia (FAM).
The matter was announced by FAM deputy president Datuk Mohd Yusoff Mahadi at a press conference after the First Special Meeting of the Executive Committee (exco), which discussed it after Tunku Ismail officially handed over his resignation letter on March 25.
"The executive committee has unanimously agreed to accept the resignation because we understand Tunku Ismail's aspirations after he gave his own explanation during the Football Malaysia Limited Liability Partnership (FMLLP) Annual Congress in Johor Baru.
"We understand Tunku Ismail's desire and reluctantly accept his resignation," said Mohd Yusoff, who will be acting president until the 64th FAM Annual Congress on July 14.
Earlier, the special meeting unanimously agreed to a proposal by another FAM deputy president, Datuk Seri Subahan Kamal, that Mohd Yusoff be named acting president for the post vacated by Tunku Ismail.
"I would like to thank Datuk Seri Subahan and the whole exco line-up for the trust given to me to assume the acting president's post until the next FAM Congress," he said.
For the record, on March 15, Tunku Ismail shook the national football fraternity when he announced his resignation as president of FAM via the official Facebook page of the Southern Tigers. — Bernama
