Company owner jailed, fined RM10,000 for bribing official

KUANTAN: An owner of a construction company was sentenced to a day's jail and fined RM10,000, in default six months jail, by the Sessions Court here yesterday for offering a bribe to an officer of the Domestic Trade, Cooperatives and consumerism Ministry (MDTCC) three years ago.
Judge Dazuki Ali meted out the sentence on Tang Chee Koan @ Tang Chee Soon, 68, who pleaded guilty to the charge.
Tang was charged with offering 10 pieces of RM100 note to a MDTCC officer Mohd Faruk Abdul Wahab as an inducement for action not to be taken against him for keeping 3,000 litres of diesel without a permit.
The offence was committed at 7.30pm on Sept 18, 2015 at Hong Ming Engineering Work Container, Jalan Besar Ringlet, in the Cameron Highlands.
In mitigation, Tang, who was unrepresented, said he had health problems and had a wife and four children to support.
Deputy public prosecutor from the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC), Mohamad Fadhly Mohd. Zamry and MACC prosecuting officer Kamariah Seman prosecuted.
