AFTER more than a decade, Malaysians will finally be able to catch Dukun, the thriller local movie inspired by infamous singer-turned-bomoh Mona Fandey.
The film, which was filmed back in 2006, was banned due to its sensitive nature and never saw the light of day. Now, it is slated for release in cinemas nationwide on Thursday, April 5.
The movie is based on one of the most gruelling murder cases in local history – that of rising politican Datuk Mazlan Idris — by witch doctor Mona Fandey, her husband and an assistant.
The trio allegedly chopped off Mazlan's head during a 'mandi bunga' ritual and then dismembered his body. While parts of Mazlan's body were found buried in Mona's house, there are rumours that the trio had eaten some body parts which were never found.
They were convicted of the gruesome murder in 1993 and executed by hanging in 2001, putting an end to the nation's most dramatic murder trial.
Mona had reportedly uttered the horrifying words "Aku takkan mati (I will never die)" before she was hanged.
With the tagline "So we meet again", the horror film is sure to entice movie-goers as Mona Fandey's legacy lives on.
