KL police have their biggest drug bust of the year

KUALA LUMPUR: City police busted a drug lab and seized 77kg of drugs worth more than RM10 million here on Sunday, making it the biggest drug haul in the city this year.
City police chief Commissioner Datuk Seri Mazlan Lazim said an anti-narcotics operation was initiated by personnel from the city police and Brickfields Narcotics Criminal Investigation Department at 2pm in a store in Taman Gembira, Brickfields here.
"We detained a local man in his late 20's. We believe he was safeguarding the laboratory.
"When the police team broke into the store, we found that the store was filled with old furniture and bicycles. Then the police team discovered several compartments where the syndicate process Methamphetamine," he told reporters at the City police headquarters here today.
Mazlan said police seized 77.41kg of Methamphetamine, 125.95kg of Ephedrine powder, chemicals namely Methanol and Isopropyl Alcohol.
"Drugs processing paraphernalia such as electronic stove, steamer, glass beaker, plastic filter and weighing scale were also seized in the operation," he added.
He said the syndicate was in operation for five months and the authorities are in the midst hunting the rest of the syndicate members.
"Those involved with the syndicate have been identified and we have their identities with us," Mazlan stressed adding that the drugs were meant for local consumption.
Police believe the syndicate targeted affluent drug users at high-end entertainment outlets or rich drug users.
The processed Methamphetamine has a street value of RM70,000 per kg.
All suspects have been remanded until April 8 and the case is being investigated under Section 39B of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952.
