THE tradition of burning paper replicas during Qingming Festival by the Chinese community to offer their ancestors worldly goods in the afterlife dates back thousands of years.
Over time, the offerings have changed from paper clothes to more modern gifts such as paper mobile phones and tablets. These raised the question on the availability of the Internet in the afterworld.
Then there are the more extravagant offerings. According to a report in Sinchew Jit Poh, a Taiwanese had 10 paper miniatures of luxury cars, a yacht, a few superbikes, lots of gift boxes and tons of designer shoes. But nothing beats a personal bank.
