BN never sabotaged Penang state govt initiatives: Teng

GEORGE TOWN: Barisan Nasional (BN) has never sabotaged any Penang state government infrastructure initiatives to alleviate traffic congestion, said its state chairman Teng Chang Yeow (pix).
Teng said the real culprit is actually the DAP-headed administration and its lack of political will and a well-thought-out plan to implement all initiatives that they had promised to Penangites.
"When the prime minister announced that if BN were to win Penang in GE13, the LRT would be built.
"But it was the Chief Minister himself who had objected and wanted a tram service system instead. Moreover, BN failed to win back Penang and therefore, was unable to deliver the LRT as we did not get the mandate," Teng said.
Teng also questioned how the proposed tunnel by the state government can resolve traffic woes when it is only going to be built 15 years from now.
He said development in Northern Seberang Prai does not depend on the third link as it had its own industrial zones even before Batu Kawan.
He pointed out with Penang Sentral in Butterworth coming up as a transport hub, northern Seberang Prai is poised to grow further thanks to the federal government initiative.
He said the project was all planned by the BN administration before 2008 and implemented after 2008.
Earlier, Chief Minister Lim Guan Eng told reporters that the federal government was out to sabotage the state's efforts to alleviate traffic problems as the state is looking to solve it by proposing the undersea tunnel project.
Besides the tunnel, the project also involves three paired roads on the island linking the Tun Dr Lim Chong Eu expressway to Air Itam, Gurney Drive and Batu Ferringhi.
