Guan Eng meets Governor over dissolution of state assembly

GEORGE TOWN: Penang Chief Minister Lim Guan Eng now faces a hectic routine as he tends to his corruption trial besides managing state affairs.
On top of that, Lim was seen rushing to the Yang di-Pertua Negri Tun Dr Abdul Rahman Abbas' official residence just before his court case resumes today.
He was believed to have sought consent from the Governor to dissolve the 13th state legislative assembly here.
This is in conjunction with the dissolution of the Parliament last Saturday.
At the court complex, Lim's panel of lawyers were hoping to seek the court's consent to adjourn the trial to a later date in view of the pending 14th general election.
Leading defence counsel Gobind Singh Deo made the appeal in court; seeking the deferment to next month.
High Court Justice Datuk Hadhariah Syed Ismail allowed the deferment on grounds that Lim was busy managing the electoral issues.
Earlier, the prosecuting officer Datuk Masri Mohd Daud objected, saying the Election Commission has yet to fix the dates for the nomination and election proper.
"Our (prosecution) witnesses are all ready to go here. We are prepared."
However, Hadhariah allowed the application by Gobind, stating the accused needs to be in court. She fixed May 10 for case management and May 21 for the trial to resume.
