THE 11-year ban on Dukun, a Mona Fandey-inspired horror movie, has raked in RM6.2 million in ticket sales in just four days after opening in Malaysia and Brunei. Its ticket collection when it premiered on April 5 was RM1.5 million.
The impressive box office figure was announced by Golden Screen Cinemas on its Facebook page yesterday.
Astro Shaw head and executive producer Najwa Abu Bakar told Berita Harian that total earnings from 120 movie theatres across the country and in Brunei is the highest for a film produced and distributed by the company.
“We’re stunned. We’re very thankful to the audience. All the work director Dain (Said) and the rest of the cast and crew members put in have paid off,” Najwa said.
“We know the competition will get really tough with big Hollywood films opening in cinemas in the weeks to come. We hope to still have the support of the audience.”
Directed by Dain Said, the movie revolves around conflicted lawyer Karim (played by Faizal Hussein) who becomes entangled with alleged murderer Diana Dahlan (Datin Seri Umie Aida) in his search for his missing daughter
Dukun also stars Adlin Aman Ramlie as Datuk Jefri, Namron, Bront Palarae, Elyana, and Hasnul Rahmat.
