Former company director jailed for CBT

KUALA LUMPUR: A former director of an engineering and construction firm was sentenced to three years' jail by the sessions court here today for two counts of criminal breach of trust (CBT) involving RM18.9 million, 11 years ago.
Judge Hasbullah Adam handed down the sentence on J. Alan Rajendram, 62, after the man changed his plea to guilty at the end of the defence case.
Hasbullah sentenced him to three months jail on each count, to be served concurrently from March 23, 2018, the day Alan Rajendram was sentenced to a year's jail by another court for furnishing false statements to Bursa Saham Malaysia (BSM).
Alan Rajendram's lawyer, Harvinderjit Singh, had earlier requested for the prison sentences on his client be served concurrently from the date.
The prosecution, conducted by deputy public prosecutor Aimi Khalidah Mohd Puzi from the Securities Commission of Malaysia, did not object.
On both counts, Alan Rajendram was charged, as the director of LFE Corporation Bhd and LFE International Limited, with committing CBT of the company fund totaling RM18.9 million, which was entrusted to him, at Standard Chartered Bank Berhad, Jalan Ampang here between Jan 4 and 11, 2007.
The charge, under Section 409 of the Penal Code, provides an imprisonment for up to 20 years and whipping, as if liable to fine, upon conviction. — Bernama
