GEORGE TOWN: One of the biggest open secrets in the coming general election has finally been revealed.
Former premier Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamed has apparently chosen Langkawi to be the parliamentary seat to stage his possible political comeback at the ripe age of 92.
A PKR leader on the island has confirmed that the Alor Star — born leader has decided to go for broke in Langkawi.
"I can confirm that Tun will be standing here barring unforeseen circumstances."
Mahathir would have come full circle as he ha served as a medical officer here in the 1960s before relocating to mainland Kedah.
His decision to transform the island resort into a leading tourist destination, in 1987 when he was the premier, was said to have lifted the island from its backwater doldrums.
It is said that Mahathir managed to bury the island's legendary curse of seven generations after a beautiful maiden called Mahsuri was wrongly accused of adultery and was stabbed to death.
Myth has it that white blood came sprouting out from her wounds before she passed on.
Now, some 30 — years later, Mahathir again wants to make another legendary achievement by trying to win in the Opposition.
He is scheduled to make his choice official when he speaks at a mega ceramah on Sunday in Langkawi.
Several Pakatan Harapan leaders will also be there for the speaking engagement.
