Widow of accident victim receives Socso aid

ALOR STAR: The Social Security Organisation (Socso) presented Funeral Management Benefit amounting to RM2,000 to the widow of a Telekom Malaysia Berhad contractor who was killed after being hit by a car while carrying out maintenance work at Jalan Burma, George Town, Penang on April 4.
Kedah Socso director Mamsor Abdul Manaf handed over the cheque to Nor Suraida Harun, 29, at her house in Kampung Sungai Mati here today.
Mamsor said, besides that, Socso would also give Dependant Benefit in the form of a monthly pension of RM930 to Nor Suraida and her four-year-old son Adam Adli Omar until the latter reached the age of 21.
Nor Suraida who is a full-time housewife said she was grateful to Socso for the financial aid that could help reduce her burden.
"I lost my husband who was the sole breadwinner for our family but I accepted his death as fate," she said.
In the 1.30am incident, Omar Osman, 40, who was carrying out maintenance work involving underground cable was hit by a car before plunging into a manhole and died on the spot due to serious head injuries. — Bernama
