PUTRAJAYA: Runway 3 of the Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA) in Sepang will be closed for a month-long comprehensive runway maintenance works starting on May 11 this year.
Malaysia Airports Holdings Bhd (MAHB) managing director Datuk Badlisham Ghazali said the runway would be closed until June 7 for the maintenance works in accordance with its Runway Sustainability Master Plan.
He said in a statement today that about six percent of daily flight movements was expected to be affected by the closure.
"The scope of works will require overlaying works and some reinstatement of infrastructure works that include drainage and earth works,"he said, adding that it was part of MAHB obligation as the airport operator to ensure the sustainability and safety of all runways at airports under its management.
Badlisham said all airlines operating at KLIA had committed to ensure the least possible inconvenience to passengers by giving early notification of any change in flight schedules.
"Passengers are advised to check with their respective airlines on their flight schedules,"he said. — Bernama
