Sabah declares polling day as public holiday

KOTA KINABALU: The Sabah government today declared May 9 as an additional public holiday to enable the people in the state to fulfil their responsibility as voters.
In a statement here today, State Secretary Tan Sri Sukarti Wakiman said the declaration was in line with the federal government's declaration of additional public holiday on that date in conjunction with the 14th General Election (GE14).
He said the declaration of additional public holiday was made in accordance with Section 9 of the Sabah Holidays Ordinance.
Last Tuesday, the Election Commission announced the polling for the GE14 on May 9, nomination on April 28, and early voting on May 5. — Bernama
