Two killed as explosive-laden vehicle skids near Maran

    KUANTAN: Two men, believed to be quarry workers were killed when a four-wheel drive vehicle laden with explosive material crashed at KM149.7 of the East Coast Highway 1 near Maran yesterday morning.
    The victims aged 34 and 35, and from Selangor died on the spot in the 7am crash. They sustained head and body injuries.
    One of the deceased is from Klang while the other is from Banting.
    The bodies were sent to the Jengka Hospital.
    Maran fire and rescue station chief, Shamsul Affendy Sulaiman said initial investigations revealed the Toyota Hilux was travelling from Kuala Lumpur to Kuantan with two boxes of Magnagel, an explosive device used for quarrying when the crash occurred.
    He said the Gebeng Hazardous Materials (Hasmat) Unit was summoned to clean up the scene of the accident. — Bernama
