KUANTAN: A restaurant helper claimed to have lost RM52,000 from her savings account after asking her neighbour to help check the balance on her behalf.
Pahang CID chief Supt Mohd Wazir Yusof said the 41-year-old woman had given her bank card to a neighbour, known as Kak Pah, to help check her account balance in May last year.
“When the victim asked Kak Pah to return her bank card, the latter refused to do so and gave various excuses,” he told reporters here yesterday.
He said after suspecting foul play, the victim went to the bank on Wednesday to check her account and found that her savings were short of RM52,000.
Mohd Wazir said following a report lodged by the victim, police picked up a married couple, aged 57 and 52, who were the neighbours of the victim at the Kampung Pak Mahat’s People's Housing Project.
The case is being investigated under Section 420 of the Penal Code which provides for a maximum jail term of 10 years and whipping as well fine, upon conviction. — Bernama
