KUALA LUMPUR: Berjaya Corporation Berhad was among 37 organisations to contribute a total of RM331,000 for the 2018 Malaysia Journalism Night (MWM) that is to take place on July 13.
The group contributed a sum of RM7,500 and was represented by its corporate communications assistant general manager Lydia Lye to present the mock cheque to the Malaysian Press Institute (MPI).
"We are contributing a table for the MWM. Berjaya has been a regular supporter of this event, we have done so for many consecutive years. So this year should be no different," she told theSun today.
MPI chief executive officer Datuk Dr. Chamil Wariya said the money collected from the various government, corporate and media organisations would be used to fund the event as well as for prizes for the lucky draw.
He said MPI has also received a total of 347 entries for 19 categories for its Malaysian Journalism Award (HKM), which would be sponsored by Petroliam Nasional Bhd (Petronas).
"The evaluation of the entries is now at the second round, and a list of five top candidates will be picked as winners," he said.
MWM, which is organised by MPI, was initially scheduled to take place on May 4 at Hotel Shangri-La, Kuala Lumpur, but was postponed to July in view of the 14th General Election.
