Saying cheers with a POP

IT'S BEEN so hot and you are craving that bottle of ice-cold Carlsberg Smooth Draught sitting in your fridge, but horrors, you can’t find the bottle opener!
Worry not, as Carlsberg Malaysia has come out with an innovative POP cap that takes out the need for a bottle opener.
Launched on Tuesday, the ring-pull POP cap now replaces the traditional pry-off cap of the 580ml and 325ml bottles of Carlsberg Smooth Draught.
At the launch party, guests were first treated to an informative interactive wall presented by host Lynn Lim, and were asked to try their skill at uncapping bottles of Smooth Draught using anything but a bottle opener.
Then, the top leadership team of Carlsberg Malaysia led by managing director Lars Lehmann gathered on stage to simultaneously pop the new Smooth Draught bottles.
That collective POP sound reached over 120 decibels to loudly announce the new ring-pull cap official launch.
Lehmann said: “Carlsberg Smooth Draught has been an enormous success since its launch with record sales growth and encouraging brand equity.
“Beer drinkers love the smooth sensation available in a bottle or can, allowing them to enjoy draught beer anytime, anywhere.
“Building on its increased popularity, we believe this innovative POP cap that makes Carlsberg Smooth Draught easier and more fun to consume, will revolutionise the draught beer-drinking experience – ‘Now You Can POP a Draught Anywhere!”
Lehmann also showed off a bit of popping ‘magic’ that elicited gasps and cheers from the guests when he was unexpectedly lifted mid-air by wires while doing a drum performance.
Leveraging on the pop sound the bottle makes when the cap is pulled off, consumers can now download the Sound Meter app and gauge the decibels of the POP they make when opening a bottle of Carlsberg Smooth Draught.
“The POP cap is probably the biggest innovation yet for the Carlsberg brand as Malaysia is the first among 140 Carlsberg markets globally to adopt this technology,” Lehmann said.
“This innovative POP cap is the solution to the hassle of traditional pry-off caps that require a bottle opener or twist-off crowns which may result in fingers getting cut.
“With the POP cap, you can now enjoy the smoothness of draught beer in a bottle with ease and fun for your comfort and convenience.”
