ALOR STAR: PAS president Datuk Seri Abdul Hadi Awang has revealed that a group of PAS leaders had tried to amend the party's constitution during the Islamist party's Muktamar in 2015.
He said the objective of the amendment was to enable the party to establish relationships with other political parties, especially the DAP.
"This group of PAS leaders wanted to minimise the responsibility of the Syura Council to serve an advisory role only.
"This totally contradicts with PAS' constitution where the Al-Quran and Hadith is the pillar of the Syura Council in making decisions," he told reporters after officiating the 41st annual general meeting (AGM) of the Pokok Sena PAS division at Kompleks PAS Pokok Sena.
The PAS Syura Council is a powerful council led by the ulama faction and is also the highest decision making body in the party.
Abdul Hadi said that particular group of leaders are no longer in the party, as PAS members had voiced out their disapproval against them in the party elections, where they were ousted from key positions in the party.
The PAS leader was referring to Amanah leaders led by former PAS deputy president Mohammad Sabu who now leads the splinter party.
On capturing Kedah in the 14th general election (GE14), Abdul Hadi said the party is confident that PAS will do well with strong support from the grassroots.
In the last general election, Kedah PAS won nine state seats and one parliamentary seat.
