Najib, Rosmah spend time with guests at autism carnival

KUALA LUMPUR: Datin Seri Rosmah Mansor today launched the 'Karnival Semarak Autisme 2018' at CIDB Convention Centre here.
The wife of the Prime Minister who is also Permata Negara (Permata) patron also spent some time with parents, visited the stalls and watched the performances staged by the children.
The carnival organised by Permata and Permata Kurnia was attended by about 2,000 people mainly children with autism and their parents.
At 12.20 pm, the guests received a pleasant surprise when Datuk Seri Najib Abdul Razak turned up unannounced to join them.
The parents and their children grabbed the opportunity to shake hands with the country's top leader and take photographs with him.
The carnival held in conjunction with Autism Awareness Day and celebrated on April 2 was aimed at encouraging greater rapport between autistic children and children outside their circle, besides removing social stigma towards people with autism.
Meanwhile, Permata Kurnia Centre director Assoc Prof Dr Hasnah Toran said the centre with the cooperation of Kolej Komuniti Selayang had set up the 'Awesome Cafe' to train autistic children to be self-reliant.
She said 15 students aged between 16 and 24 were currently involved in the entrepreneurial project.
"In this joint endeavour, trainers from the college would come to Permata Kurnia once a month to teach the students to cook and make coffee," she said.
Currently, 413 autistic children are being at treated at Permata Kurnia. — Bernama
