PEKAN: The outstanding performance shown by Amanah Ikhtiar Malaysia (AIM) in helping people in the country to unleash the grip of poverty by offering microcredit loans to impoverished borrowers, has gained international recognition, said its executive chairman, Datuk Dr Zubir Harun.
He said for five consecutive years since 2013, AIM was awarded the 'Best Islamic Microfinance Institution' by the Global Islamic Finance Awards (GIFA).
According to him since its inception, AIM has channeled RM19 billion as loans to poor and low-income households nationwide, to enable them to improve their standard of living through economic activities.
"Apart from providing microfinance services, the members are given entrepreneurial skill training and guidance to help them face competition and challenges in the business world.
"The assistance had greatly transformed the lives of low-income families and some have succeeded to become millionaires," he said in his speech at the Assembly of AIM Entrepreneurs for Pekan parliamentary constituency at the Sultan Ahmad Shah Convention Hall here today.
The ceremony officiated by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Abdul Razak was attended by over 2,000 AIM entrepreneurs. — Bernama
