Bentong to have UTC, pledges Liow

BENTONG: A Urban Transformation Centre (UTC) will be set up in Bentong if the mandate is returned to the Barisan Nasional (BN) to rule the country after the 14th General Election (GE14), said Transport Minister Datuk Seri Liow Tiong Lai.
Liow, who is also MCA president, said the matter which was requested by the local community had been extended to the government for further action.
"In my meet-the-people sessions, I often received requests for a UTC be established in Bentong for the convenience of the people.
"For that, I have made applications to the relevant parties and have received positive feedback on it," he told a media conference after launching the NBOS Friendly Fiesta at the Federal Religious Secondary School here today.
Liow, who is also incumbent for the Bentong parliamentary seat, said to ensure the opening of the UTC becomes a reality, he said the commitment would be part of his GE14 pledge, particularly for the people of Bentong.
Apart from providing various services by the government and private sector, he said the opening of the UTC would also generate more job opportunities.
So far the government had saved up to RM2 billion, in terms of development expenditure, through the opening of 21 centres nationwide, he said.
On another note, Liow urged any BN component parties intending to contest in the Wangsa Maju and Bandar Tun Razak parliamentary constituencies not to discuss the matter openly, especially in the media.
He said this was because seat allocation, including these two seats, were being jointly decided through negotiations involving the BN top leadership.
The issue arises following a report that had stated MCA wanted the Wangsa Maju seat back after it was loaned to Umno in GE13 while Umno was said to be fielding its candidate in Bandar Tun Razak seat, which is traditionally a MCA seat.
Earlier in his speech, he asked the people to make a wise choice in the GE14 by voting for a government that had an excellent track record and sustainable development agenda for the people and country. — Bernama
