SHAH ALAM: The Education Ministry is investigating a video that features a student of a secondary school here being "bullied" by his friends, purportedly to commemorate his birthday, which has been viralled on the social media since the past few days.
Its deputy minister, Datuk P. Kamalanathan said such an incident should not happen for whatever reason or purpose.
"I have been informed that the ministry is investigating the case," he told reporters when met after opening the 'Stand Together' carnival here today.
Kamalanathan was commenting on the video which featured eight male students, including one in prefect uniform, assaulting another student with a broom. Prior to that, the eight students sang "Happy Birthday" to the boy.
It is learnt that such "bullying" is a tradition practised by students of the school to celebrate their friend's birthday.
Meanwhile, Shah Alam district police chief ACP Baharudin Mat Taib said following an investigation, it was found that the incident occurred last February and that the school authority had identified all the students involved.
He advised the public against making an speculation on the video. — Bernama
