ALOR SETAR: Former national footballer Radhi Mat Din has been announced as PAS candidate for the Pokok Sena parliamentary seat in the 14th General Election (GE14).
PAS president Datuk Seri Abdul Hadi Awang announced the 53-year-old former midfielder's candidacy during a ceramah at Alor Ibus PAS branch near here last night.
Radhi was an influential player during Kedah's successful football period and has led the state football team to final of Malaysia Cup on seven occasions.
He is likely to face incumbent MP of Pokok Sena Datuk Mahfuz Omar from Amanah and possibly another candidate from Umno.
Abdul Hadi also announced state PAS commissioner Dr Ahmad Fakhruddin Syeikh Fahkrurazi and 46-year-old pharmacist Muhamad Riduan Othman as the candidates for Pengkalan Kundur state seat and the Kuala Kedah parliamentary constituencies respectively.
Pengkalan Kundor and Kuala Kedah are currently held by Amanah and PKR respectively.
Earlier Ahmad Fakhruddin said in his speech that PAS is confident even in a three-cornered fight and the party would form the Kedah state government.
"Don't hesitate, strengthen our stands and God-willing we will win", he told more than 2,000 PAS members and supporters at the ceramah.
