KUALA LUMPUR: Pengurusan Air Selangor Sdn Bhd (Air Selangor) has detected illegal connections made to the treated water supply pipes at a construction site in Kepong which resulted in losses of over RM257,000.
Its Consumer Relations and Communications Department head, Abdul Raof Ahmad said the discovery was made in a joint raid with the National Water Services Commission (SPAN) today, following complaints lodged by members of the public over the past two weeks.
"Investigation revealed that there are two illegal water supply connections from the Air Selangor's main water pipes located near the construction site.
"These pipes are supplying water to the site for the use of construction works and daily activities of the workers," he told a press conference here today.
Abdul Raof said Air Selangor would take legal action under Section 123(1) of the Water Services Industry Act 2006 (Act 655) against the contractor of the site.
SPAN Communications and Consumer Affairs senior executive Loh Pit Mui said the notice of offence was jointly issued by Air Selangor and SPAN.
According to Loh, the commission had received 16 such complaints in Kuala Lumpur, Putrajaya and Selangor since Jan 1 which resulted in losses to Air Selangor.
