Allow public access to info on China investments, Nurul Izzah urges govt

PETALING JAYA: Reveal all documents related to investments or deals with China for the public to assess, Pakatan Harapan urged the Barisan Nasional caretaker government.
Challenging caretaker Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Abdul Razak, PKR vice-president and election director Nurul Izzah Anwar urged him to debate without hiding anything on all the terms and conditions imposed by foreign investors, including China.
"This would enable the people to have knowledge and understand the payment methods and return on investments (ROI) which the nation is undertaking and benefiting.
"Numerous multi-billion ringgit projects involve China, including the construction of the East Coast Rail Link (ECRL) (RM55 billion), the KL-Singapore High Speed Rail (KLHSR) (RM40-RM80 billion), the development of Forest City (about RM400 billion), the Malacca Gateway (RM42 billion) and the upgrading of Port Klang (RM200 billion)," she said in a statement today.
Nurul Izzah said the people as the major stakeholders of the country have a right to access information on all the details of the deal which involves billions of ringgit.
"Any form of misrepresentation of the facts or concealment of information is a form of corruption.
"Any statement made by the PM only gives the people a poor perception as long as it is not accompanied by legitimate facts and data," she added.
Nurul Izzah also denied all claims made by caretaker Prime Minister that the country would face huge losses if the mega projects involving China were re-looked and possibly cancelled.
She said the Pakatan Harapan (PH) has a solid framework to scrutinise foreign investments with assessments based on the impacts and implications on the people.
"PH would never ever gamble with the nation's future just to settle the government's debts, nor to attain any political or personal gains," she added.
"In view of this, I challenge Najib to reveal all documents related to the investments and joint co-operations entered into with China which are estimated to be worth more than RM140 billion in total.
"By allowing the public access to such information, the competency, credibility, responsibility and integrity of all quarters involved in the Malaysia-China deals can be upheld, while all details can be scrutinised and double-checked," she said.
Nurul Izzah noted that there was only one written answer from the Home Ministry in Parliament and there is yet to be any detailed explanation from the government on this matter.
"I am sure many are eagerly waiting for an explanation from Najib and the BN on why they accepted a condition from China that we almost exclusively use their workers for the numerous investment projects," she said.
