Drug trafficker nabbed, gun with 54 live bullets seized

JOHOR BARU: Police detained a drug trafficker and seized a gun together with 54 live bullets following an anti-narcotics raid at a shoplot in Tangkak here on April 6.
Johor police chief Commissioner Datuk Mohd Khalil Kader Mohd said the 47-year-old local was arrested by personnel from the Bukit Aman Narcotics Criminal Investigation Department (NCID).
"The suspect had a previous record for drug-related offence and he also tested positive for drug abuse.
"Following his arrest, an NCID team from the Johor Baru district police headquarters raided a shoplot between 3.40pm and 9.30pm," he told reporters after attending the Blood Donation Program in conjunction with the 211th Police Day at Paradigm Mall here today.
Police recovered Syabu weighing 8.09kg from the shoplot which could cater to at least 4,000 addicts.
"The drugs seized were worth RM566,000. The investigators also seized a Stoeger Cougar 8000 Beretta pistol, some 50 live bullets, five bullet cartridges and a magazine containing four live bullets," added Mohd Khalil.
He said the suspect would be remanded until April 20 to allow investigations under Section 39B of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952 and Section 8/8A of the Firearms (Heavier Penalty) Act 1971.
