KUALA LUMPUR: The Malaysian Civil Defence Force (MCDF) is ready to increase the number of its members on duty during the 14th general election (GE14) on May 9 according to needs.
MCDF Chief Commissioner Major General Datuk Azmy Yahya said, so far, 14,000 members had been called up to be stationed in 14 states nationwide.
"Currently, MCDF has not received any request to help send voters to the voting centres.
"MCDF has also identified places that have no roads especially in Sarawak and will provide assistance if they need help," he told a media conference after the MCDF Medal Award Ceremony, here today.
Azmy said preparations for GE13 were made over the last two months by setting up a special team to be prepared for any disaster.
"MCDF will provide humanitarian and medical assistance especially in seven hot spots nationwide," he said. — Bernama
