IPOH: Perak Umno will not let its guard down despite the release of a report by the Invoke Malaysia research body that Umno has strong support from the Malays in the state ahead of the coming 14th general election (GE14).
Its Liaison Committee chairman Datuk Seri Dr Zambry Abd Kadir (pix) said the results of the study cannot be accepted as it was carried out in general by a body that was known to be directly involved with the opposition.
"Maybe they just want us to feel that we can win. I would not be easily influenced unless the study was made by an independent body," he told a press conference after attending the 'Executive Talk with Sister Sabria' at the Perak Darul Ridzuan Building here today.
Yesterday, Parti Keadilan Rakyat vice-president Rafizi Ramli, who is also Invoke founder, during his speech at the launching of Pakatan Harapan machinery in Hulu Kinta, said that Umno still had strong support from the Malays in Perak.
Zambry said Umno basically had its own research which is more focused on all state and parliamentary constituencies in Perak.
"We are not only using the sampling method like Invoke, but we do research based on the context in each state and parliamentary constituencies in Perak," he said.
Zambry, who is Perak Barisan Nasional (BN) chairman, said the state BN was streamlining its machinery to gain more support from the people.
"Most importantly, we have to continue our work to ensure that the situation in Perak, especially the support from the people, can be maintained and strengthened," he said. — Bernama
