Selangor PH finalises seat distribution

SHAH ALAM: After a long wrangle, Selangor Pakatan Harapan (PH) is said to have finalised the distribution of state legislative seats for the coming 14th general election (GE14) last Saturday.
PH election director, Dr Xavier Jayakumar however declined to indicate the total seats allocated to DAP, Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR), Parti Amanah Negara (Amanah) and Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (PPBM) in the coalition.
He stressed that the distribution of seats was based on the winnable factor and would be announced on April 25 or 26.
"The distribution of seats has been completed including the six seats disputed among PH component parties. We hope all (PH coalition parties) would agree, if not, how to seek a resolution.
"There will be candidates moving from state to parliamentary seats, some will remain in state seats but all these will be determined by the party," he told reporters when met after a Goodwill Programme among operators and managements of Sekolah Jenis Kebangsaan Cina (SJKC), SJK Tamil, religious schools and Sekolah Menengah Jenis Kebangsaan here today.
In February, Xavier said the distribution of seats in Selangor would be settled at the end of the month but the issue dragged on due to several overlapping seat claims among PH coalition parties. The decision was further delayed to mid March or before the dissolution of Parliament.
However after the dissolution of Parliament on April 7, the coalition was still unable to settle the seat distribution issue when Selangor PH chairman Datuk Seri Mohamed Azmin Ali on April 9 could not give a final decision and said it would be determined in a day or two.
In this regard, when asked on whether he would continue to stand in a state seat or move to a parliamentary constituency for GE14, Xavier who is also Seri Andalas assemblyman said the matter had not been decided by PKR.
Xavier said the Seri Andalas state seat has been renamed Sungai Kandis after the delineation exercise and PH may put a Malay candidate as the majority of the voters are Malays.
Earlier, Mohamad Azmin when met during the programme also said the distribution of seats has been completed and an announcement on the breakdown of the seats will be made before nomination day.
Last Tuesday, the Election Commission issued an election writ which set nomination day on April 28, early voting on May 5 and polling day on May 9. — Bernama
