KAJANG: Two men including a "Datuk" who were charged last week with cheating nine people over land transfer payments were charged again at the sessions court here today with a similar offence involving over RM630,000.
Datuk Nor Hasnal Hashmi, 49, and Sayyid Walid Hasuana, 31, both pleaded not guilty when the nine charges were read to them before judge Datin Surita Budin.
The duo were charged with deceiving nine people, making them believe that they will transfer land plots for the construction of nine houses for the victims, which led the nine to hand over a total of RM637,500 to Masgenuine Alliance Holdings Sdn Bhd as payment for the non-existent land transfer.
They allegedly committed the offences under Section 420 of the Penal Code at Jalan Lagenda Suria 3, Taman Lagenda Suria in Hulu Langat, here, between October 2012 and September 2014.
The offence carries a maximum jail sentence of 10 years, whipping and fine, if convicted.
Earlier, deputy public prosecutor Siti Noor Hafizan Zakaria offered RM150,000 bail to each of the accused.
Counsel Zainal Omar who represented Nor Hasnal pleaded for minimun bail and said his client who is a father of 10 is still supporting seven of his children who are still in school.
"My client was also declared bankrupt earlier this year which affected his source of income to support his family," he said.
Meanwhile, counsel Ahmad Zaharil Muhaiyar who represented Sayyid pleaded for the court to impose a curfew on his client as a condition of bail.
"I plead that my client could be allowed to be outside the house from 7am to 7pm," he said.
The court then allowed RM80,000 bail for each of the accused and ordered for the duo to surrender their passports to the court until the disposal of the case.
Their case will be up for mention in May 10.
On April 12, Nor Hasnal and Sayyid with another man claimed trial at the sessions court in Selayang to nine counts of a similar offence involving RM700,000.
