Wanita Umno permanent chairman dies

SEREMBAN: Wanita Umno permanent chairman Tan Sri Napsiah Omar died at 6.10pm today of liver cancer.
This was announced by her closest relative Datuk Yahya Hamid.
Yahya said she died at the residence of her son in Ampang Jaya, near Kuala Lumpur.
"Her remains are now in Ampang Jaya and will be brought to Kuala Pilah tonight.
"Napsiah would be laid to rest before the Zohor prayers tomorrow at the Jalan Melang Muslim Cemetery, Kuala Pilah," he said when contacted by Bernama, here today.
Napsiah, who was 74 years old, is survived by a son and three daughters.
She had served as Deputy Housing and Local Government Minister in 1982, Minister of Public Enterprises (1987), Minister of National Unity and Social Development (1990), and a Member of the Negri Sembilan Executive Council (1995-1999).
Napsiah joined the Kuala Pilah Umno branch in 1972 and became Kuala Pilah Member of Parliament for three terms since 1982.
She later became the State Assemblyman for Pilah for one term after defeating Ruslan Kassim from PKR with a majority of 2,818 in the 10th general election in 1999.
However, in the 11th general election Napsiah was not listed as a candidate. — Bernama
