BAE Systems inks partnership for Chevening scholarship in Malaysia

KUALA LUMPUR: British defence, security and aerospace solutions company, BAE Systems Plc, today renewed its partnership with the British High Commission of Malaysia for the 2018 Chevening Scholarship programme.
In a statement today, BAE Systems said, the agreement was inked at the Defence Services Asia 2018 exhibition and conference here.
The UK-headquartered defence giant has sponsored more than 50 Malaysian post-graduate students since 2012 and invested RM5 million to-date.
"BAE Systems remains one of the largest contributors to the Chevening Programme in Malaysia and this renewal ensures that more young Malaysians can benefit from this programme in the future," it said.
Present at the signing ceremony today were the British High Commissioner to Malaysia Vicki Treadell; BAE Systems group business development director Alan Garwood; BAE Systems Southeast Asia managing director John Brosnan; and, BAE Systems international sales director for Typhoon, Andy Lavin.
Earlier this year, the Chevening Scholarship programme saw scholars being given the opportunity to tour the group's Hawk and Typhoon aircraft production lines in Lancashire, England.
According to BAE Systems, the Royal Malaysian Air Force has a fleet of Hawk and was currently evaluating the Typhoon multi-role aircraft as the next jet fighter for the air force.
BAE Systems is the largest supplier to the Malaysian Armed Forces and employs over 500 people through its Malaysian operations, which include a cyber-engineering centre and a naval guns joint venture with Boustead Heavy Industries Bhd and BHIC Bofors Asia Sdn Bhd. — Bernama
