A different kind of cruise

PEACE BOAT is not merely a cruise liner that traverses the world’s oceans, but is also a non-governmental organisation founded in Japan with a mission to raise awareness of global issues, and foster positive social change.
The Peace Boat organisation believes that travel in itself can be a tool for positive social and political change.
Since its maiden voyage in 1983, the Peace Boat has hosted over 60,000 passengers in 95 cruises and travelled to more than 100 ports in over 80 countries.
In addition to onboard and port programmes, Peace Boat works to include indigenous perspectives in its advocacy and campaigns, for example, in work related to nuclear issues, which severely impact indigenous communities across the world.
Now, Malaysians can be part of this Peace Boat community.
Tour and travel company Reliance Travel has partnered with Peace Boat to bring the cruise ship to three markets: Malaysia, Singapore, and Thailand.
Reliance Travel Group deputy CEO Reuben Gan said: “Our partnership reflects our sincere efforts to promote travel that goes beyond just leisure, but travel that educates and promotes peace, and fosters cross-cultural understanding.
“Together, we believe that travel can act as a tool for positive social and political change.”
Peace Boat’s most recent visit to Malaysia took place on March 27, when it arrived at Port Klang as part of its 97th regional voyage which began in Yokohama on March 8, carrying globetrotters on a life-changing journey around the world before returning to Japan on April 23.
