PBS, UPKO, PBRS strengthen unity for major BN polls victory

KOTA KINABALU: Three Sabah Barisan Nasional component parties today held an unprecedented presidential council meeting to forge greater cooperation for a major BN victory in the 14th General Election on May 9.
They are Parti Bersatu Sabah (PBS), Pertubuhan Pasokmomogun Kadazandusun Murut Bersatu (UPKO) and Parti Bersatu Rakyat Sabah (PBRS).
"It is the first time ever we do this in order to make sure solid cooperation (among party machinery) during the election.
"This is to enhance (the BN) machinery even more effectively and good for our own supporters of the three parties," PBS acting president Datuk Seri Dr Maximus Ongkili said to reporters after chairing the maiden presidential council meeting here. Also present were UPKO acting president Datuk Seri Wilfred Madius Tangau and PBRS president Tan Sri Joseph Kurup.
He said the three parties were committed to supporting any of their candidates fielded in the coming general election to ensure a huge victory for the respective parties and the BN.
Tangau said the cooperation and unity among the parties were important in boosting the BN chances of winning big in GE14.
Kurup said it was vital for the three parties to extend full cooperation to ensure a major BN victory for the sake of the people from various communities, especially KDM (Kadazan, Dusun and Murut).
The BN has allocated 20 state seats to the three parties, with PBS contesting 13; UPKO, six; and PBRS, one. As for the parliamentary seats, PBS will contest five; UPKO, four; and PBRS, one.
Sabah has 25 parliamentary seats and 60 state seats. — Bernama
