Sister Sabria's experience can be emulated by youths in Perak

IPOH: The experience of more than 30 years gained by Sabariah Hussein, or better known as Sister Sabria in Montreal, Canada, in doing charity work can be used as a guide and emulated by the youths in Perak.
Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Dr Zambry Abd Kadir said the volunteer and charity work done by Sister Sabria, 70, who is a Johor-born Malaysian, should rightly be the aspiration of all.
"We really need people like her who is always in the field to serve the people and the society. This (charity work) is a big thing and should be used as a guide and emulated by the young generation.
"Living in a multi-religious society is not really a factor for Sister Sabria. We can live in a comfortable environment as long as we can be compassionate to others."
The Menteri Besar said this to reporters after an Executive Talk with Sister Sabria Programme in conjunction with the 2018 World Conference On Islamic Thought & Civilisation (WCIT) scheduled to be held from July 16 to 18.
Meanwhile, Sabariah, a retired special education teacher, said the young generation should focus on what they want and pursue it.
"They should focus on what they want in life and if they want to take part in charity work, then go ahead, but you must know in which area. Don't do half-way and then walk away due to lack of interest," she said.
Sabariah, who migrated to Canada 32 years ago and is popular for her charity work in that country, said she began to like doing charity work after seeing her parents getting involved in so many charities to serve the society.
"Charity begins at home when my late mom doing charity for the needy and sometimes she cooks at weddings ceremony.
"I remember asking my mom, 'why not ask them to pay'? and my mom said 'Pity them, they can't afford it, we must always help the poor," she said.
