Govt approves RM547.9m for 127 rural development projects in Kedah

SUNGAI PETANI: The government had approved an allocation amounting to RM547.9 million for the implementation of 127 rural development projects in Kedah since 2016.
Caretaker Rural and Regional Development Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob said some of the projects were already completed.
He said among the projects that involved the huge allocation were construction of rural roads, involving five projects, costing RM135 million, and seven rural water supply projects, costing RM50.7 million.
The rural road projects are from Simpang Pokok Machang to Kuala Sin in Kuala Muda (RM38 million), upgrading of Jalan Padang Sera/Siputeh in Kubang Pasu (RM15 million) and the Alor Ganu/Alor Madi/Titi Gajah road and bridge construction in Kota Setar (RM40 million).
The other two road projects are from Kampung Sungai Batu/Kampung Sungai Pasir/Ladang Dublin in Bandar Baharu (RM40 million) and the building of a new bridge to replace a wooden bridge at Kampung Pantai Prai in Kuala Muda (RM2 million).
"Apart from that, there are also small projects for rural water supply, costing RM7.2 million," he told reporters after the ground-breaking ceremony for a road project from Simpang Pokok Machang to Kuala Sin in Bukit Selambau, near here today.
For the village street light programme, Ismail Sabri said a total of 10,723 bulbs, comprising 593 light-emitting diode (LED) and 10,130 High Pressure Sodium Vapour (HPSV), had been installed in the state. — Bernama
