THE COMEDIC duo of Igudesman & Joo return to Dewan Filharmonik Petronas (DFP) to perform two concerts with the Malaysian Philharmonic Orchestra (MPO) called UpBeat this Friday and Saturday at 8.30pm.
Classical musicians Aleksey Igudesman and Hyung-ki Joo have taken the world by storm with their unique, hilarious theatrical shows.
They have appeared on television in many countries, and are equally comfortable performing in concert halls and bigger venues such as stadiums.
The artistes met when they were studying at the Yehudi Menuhin School in England, and have since remained friends and writing partners.
In 2004, they created their groundbreaking show, A Little Nightmare Music, and collaborated with symphonic orchestras at prestigious music festivals.
Among the luminaries that they have performed with are Emanuel Ax, Joshua Bell, Janine Jansen and Julian Rachlin.
Their shows such as BIG Nightmare Music, And Now Mozart, Play It Again and Scary Concert have received much acclaim around the world with clips and excerpts being watched on YouTube over 40 million times.
Their concerts here will be the third time Igudesman and Joo will be sharing the stage at DFP and their second collaboration with the MPO.

Their first collaboration with MPO was in 2009 when they performed with Gidon Kremer.
Their UpBeat concerts will see them perform a symphonic Nokia ringtone poem called Ring in the Classics, an epic exercise in coughing called Winter Polka, a homage to sounds from horror movies in Horror Movie, and their own version of a Wagner classic called Ride of the Oy Veykyries.
Meanwhile on Sunday, the Malaysian Philharmonic Youth Orchestra (MPYO) takes to the DFP stage to celebrate springtime in its concert, Springtime Serenade, at 3pm.
The concert programme includes Gioacchino Rossini’s String Sonata No.3, Carl Ditters von Dittersdorf’s Double Bass Concerto No.2 in E flat, Richard Strauss’ exuberant Serenade for Winds and Antonin Dvorak’s warm Serenade in E for Strings.
The concert will be led by MPO’s resident conductor Naohisa Furusawa.
